MAKE A DIFFERENCE – VOLUNTEER!

Gads Hill Center relies on volunteers to supplement the services provided by our staff and funders. Volunteering at Gads Hill Center is an opportunity for service, learning and connection with a vibrant Chicago community. We welcome individuals and groups, including those from companies and schools. Volunteer opportunities are described in more detail below.

Create Your Own Enrichment Series Module!   
Volunteer with our after school programs! Lead a month-long module about your area of interest with our teens in Building Leaders or our school-age children in Junior Building Leaders. The 4-week modules take place one night a week for four weeks. From painting to finances to sports, contact us about your favorite skill. We will partner with you for a rewarding experience teaching the students at Gads Hill Center.

PlayStreets
PlayStreets Volunteering:
In partnership with the Chicago Department of Public Health and United Way of Metropolitan Chicago, Gads Hill Center implements 75 PlayStreet events throughout the summer transforming neighborhood streets into safe places for children and their parents to engage in fun, active play. Volunteers are needed to help set-up, clean-up and lead activities.

Time Commitment
  • PlayStreets take place throughout the summer from June through August
  • Each event lasts 3-4 hours generally between 11 am – 2 pm

Locations
Throughout the city of Chicago, primarily in Albany Park, Austin, Avondale, Belmont-Cragin, Hermosa, Humboldt Park, East and West Garfield Park, North and South Lawndale, Montlare, Rogers Park, Lower West Side and Uptown neighborhoods.

Tutor a Teen 
Tutors work with high school and college-bound students in our Building Leaders program. One-on-one tutoring as well as tutors in a group setting are needed. Individuals with strong math, science and writing skills are needed!

Time Commitment
One day per week, 2-3 hours between 3:30 pm – 6:30 pm

Group Volunteer Opportunities

Gads Hill Center welcomes groups of all sizes to lend a helping hand. This is a great opportunity for corporate, church or other groups to give back to their community while building team spirit and morale. Activities may include:
  • Holiday Toy Drive
  • School Supply Drive
  • Book Drive
  • Painting/Cleaning Classrooms 
  • “Read to Kids” days
  • Host an outing: sports, zoo, museums, etc.
