On October 1, our CEO Maricela Garcia shared her passion for supporting and strengthening Latino communities in Chicago with state and local officials at a Hispanic Heritage Month celebration hosted by Comptroller Susana Mendoza. The event honored four outstanding Latino leaders with a commemorative award for their service to marginalized Chicago communities. Honorees included Gloria Castillo, President & CEO of Chicago United, Teresa Cordova of the UIC Great Cities Institute, Modesto Tico Valle of the Center on Halsted, and our own Maricela Garcia. The Chicago Benchmarking Collaborative is celebrating 10 years and the group is making
Chicago Proud. Lori Ann Bass from Christopher House and Maricela Garcia from Gads Hill Center were in the ABC7 Studio to talk about the collaboration. Chalkbeat.org covered the opening of Gads Hill Center's new Brighton Park location as one of the leading organizations opening child care development centers for children four-years-old and under.

The 2018 scholars awarded by The Building Leaders Scholarship fund are Julio Perales and Juritzy Fray. On Friday, July 27, 2018 Gads Hill Center hosted its 5th Annual Golf Outing, Drive to Succeed. The event was held at the Village Greens of Woodridge in Woodridge, Illinois. On June 3, 2018 Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Alderman Raymond Lopez joined Gads Hill Center and media outlets to announce our new Brighton Park Early Education Center as part of the 2018 state budget. The location will serve more than 120 youths in surrounding neighborhoods, as well as adult education programming.
