Connection Tutor/Mentor
Tutors and mentors play special roles in the lives of our children.
All tutors and mentors are trained in the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets model,
based on research showing that the higher number of developmental assets that children have,
the less likely they are to engage in risky behaviors (school failure, early drug and alcohol use,
violence, early pregnancy) and the more likely they are to engage in positive behaviors (doing well in school,
volunteering). The developmental assets are 40 opportunities, skills, relationships, values, and self-perceptions
that all young people need in order to succeed. Tutors and mentors have the unique opportunity to form strong bonds
with Gads Hill participants, whether it is through coaching a girls' basketball team, helping a teenager with his math
homework, or teaching an English as a Second Language class.
|
| Department assistants help with the administrative tasks of a particular department. For example, a development assistant
might have the task of analyzing the Center's current donor program. Or, a business office assistant might be responsible
for recording all of the Center's expenses.

Gads Hill welcomes the participation of volunteers for special projects!
In the past, Bank of America, Greencorps, DePaul University, and
Kraft Foods have all worked with the kids and families of Gads Hill,
and at times the entire Pilsen community, in special collaborative projects.
