Trent, Program Assistant at the Child Development Center
Trent volunteers as a Program Assistant for 12 hours a week at the Child Development Center in North Lawndale. Trent and 10 other DePaul students work for the Jumpstart Program and help Gads Hill toddlers with social skills, reading, writing, or whatever the teacher needs. Trent, a pre-med student who plans to go into pediatric psychiatry, says, "This is one of the most interesting experiences I've had. I've learned more in the past two months about myself and about little kids than I have in my entire life. It's a lot of fun."

Vicki, Club Learn Aide
Eighth-grader Vicki volunteers as a Club Learn Aide as part of her community service requirement for Orozco Middle School. Vicki works with 10-year-olds in Club 3, and helps with their homework, art projects, computer work and supervised play. According to Vicki, "It's a great experience. I feel secure with the staff. They care about you." When asked about her plans for the future, Vicki says, "When I am old enough, I will apply for a job here."

Jill, Special Project Organizer
Jill learned about the Child Development Center through United Way of Metropolitan Chicago and decided to create her own project. Jill organized her company to contribute holiday gifts for 200 children at the Child Development Center. She organized a committee to wrap and distribute the gifts. Jill also organized a second project to bring sports equipment to Club Learn. According to Jill, "I think you have to make a difference in your community. I believe you can do that by touching one person. Everyone at the Child Development Center was dedicated, caring, and enthusiastic. The staff members are so kind, so generous, and so organized. Gads Hill touched me, and moved me to help."
