Program Description
The mission of Building Leaders is to reduce the likelihood that Chicago teenagers will become victims to, or perpetrators of, violence by creating a safe, secure, and nurturing support system for 100 students at Thomas Kelly High School in Brighton Park. Building Leaders accomplishes this by developing strong mentoring relationships with these students, and effectively advocating for them in the community.
A MENTOR…
- Empowers youth to make positive choices
- Helps young people develop short- and long-term goals
- Connects youth with constructive after-school and weekend activities
AN ADVOCATE…
- Helps a young person develop his/her voice in the community
- Connects families to needed resources
- Promotes fairness and fights discrimination in all his/her actions
A STUDENT…
- Meets with mentors at least weekly, in individual and group settings, and engage in (at least) monthly community service projects
Through empathic, empowering relationships, Building
Leaders strives to meet the varied needs of all its students and families,
making them valuable resources in the community.
