Gads
Hill, a family resource center established in 1898, partners with our
community to develop the assets of children, youth, adults, and families. In
collaboration with the members of our community and other organizations,
Gads Hill Center develops programs that support and empower the
economically and educationally disadvantaged residents of Chicago’s
Pilsen, Little Village and North Lawndale neighborhoods. We put our
mission into action through an array of services that are of high quality,
flexible, responsive, and culturally sensitive:
Gads Hill Center's mission is its guide in developing and refining programs that truly reach and bring about positive change in the community. We believe in the Search Institute's 40 Developmental Assets, which are 40 opportunities, skills, relationships, values, and self-perceptions that all young people need in order to succeed. The model shows that the higher number of developmental assets that children have, the less likely they are to engage in risky behaviors, and the more likely they are to engage in positive behaviors. We help parents build their children's assets through a variety of extracurricular family-centered activities, including workshops, trainings, and family potluck dinners. All of our employees, and over half of our participant kids' parents, receive training in this philosophy. |
