Teacher Assistant
Reports to Classroom Teacher
Essential Functions:
1.
Assists the
Classroom Teacher in planning, organizing and implementing the
curriculum
and program activities.
2.
Assists by
supporting teacher in maintaining order and cleanliness in the classroom.
3.
Assists in
serving meals and snacks and cleaning up after eating.
4.
Performs other
service-related duties as assigned when not substituting in a classroom.
Duties and
Responsibilities:
1. Assists Teacher in the supervision of a group of children.
2.
Assists in
providing a safe, nurturing and developmentally appropriate environment.
3.
Responsible for
conducting activities under the direction of the supervising teacher.
4.
Assists Teacher
in serving meals and snacks.
5.
Serves meals and
snacks from prep kitchen to classroom.
Cleans up afterwards.
6.
Participates in
supervision, staff meetings and outside professional meetings and workshops as
required.
7.
Demonstrates
knowledge of Head Start and Pre-k standards and implements them in all aspects
of work.
8.
Must be able to
lift up to 50 pounds (average child’s weight).
9.
Understands and
implements the Developmental Assets model of the SEARCH Institute.
10.
Participates in
Center-wide events, programs and celebrations as required.
11.
Participates in
supervision meetings and workshops within the Center and outside (if
applicable).
12.
Participates in
40 hours of staff development training per year.
13.
Performs other
duties as assigned.
Position Specifications:
Continuing
education student with a minimum of 18 credit hours in Child Development from
an accredited College or University required.
At least 6 months of previous direct early childhood
classroom experience required. CDA,
Associate’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from an accredited institution
is preferred. Good interpersonal and
communication skills required.
Experience with low-income families preferred. Bilingual/Bicultural English/Spanish
preferred. Ability to
pass a background check and if required the Illinois Department of Children
Services fingerprint and background check. All qualified applicants will receive
