Group Worker

Reports to External/Internal Club Learn Coordinator or Site Administrator

Essential Functions:

1.      Responsible for planning, documenting and implementing enriching, age-appropriate educational, social and recreational activities for school-age children, under assigned supervisor.

2.      Responsible for maintaining a safe environment which is conducive to the development of the children’s creative abilities and enhancing their physical and mental development.

3.      Responsible for implementing rules regarding respectful use of borrowed space and equipment.

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

1.      Demonstrates and instructs participants in activities such as active sports, group dances and games, arts and crafts, and dramatic play as indicated by lesson plans.

2.      Organizes and leads a group of children in activities that meet the interest of both individuals and group members using Activities Club curriculum.

3.      Provides access for children to be creative in science, nature, and nutrition curricula and materials through weekly activities.

4.      Cooperates and collaborates with other in-house staff, Chicago Public Schools, or other organizations’ faculty and staff members in the development of joint activities.

5.      Provides leadership, supervision and training to Aides assigned to Club Learn.

6.      Performs administrative duties such as recording children’s daily attendance and meal participation,   as assigned.

7.      Understands and implements all rules and assignments regarding use of borrowed space and equipment, and respects same.

8.      Understands and implements the Developmental Assets model of the SEARCH Institute.

9.      Participates in Center-wide events, programs and celebrations as required.

10.  Participates in supervision meetings and workshops within the Center and outside (if applicable).

11.  Participates in 40 hours of staff development training per year.

12.  Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Position Specifications:

At least one year of accredited college or university with six semester hours or equivalent quarter hours in courses related directly to child development for school age children is required.  Two years of direct experience in school age program and 6 credit hours in child development will be considered.  Good communication and interpersonal skills.  Current driver’s license required.  Bilingual/bicultural English/Spanish preferred.  Ability to pass a background check and if required the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services fingerprint and background check.  All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, ethnicity, religion, gender, sexual orientation, national origin or disability.
